Boating can feel intimidating, especially in the waters surrounding Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry. Strong currents, significant tidal swings, shallow waterways, busy marinas, and changing conditions often present challenges that can overwhelm even experienced boaters. Meet Captain Joe Dragich

With more than 30 years of boating experience, Joe brings a combination of professional training and practical knowledge to every lesson. His boating background began on the Great Lakes, where he worked aboard charter fishing vessels and developed a deep appreciation for seamanship, safety, and responsible boat handling. For the past two decades, he has navigated the waterways of Charleston and the surrounding coastal region aboard a wide range of vessels, including offshore fishing boats, bay boats, center consoles, and recreational craft.

As a United States Coast Guard licensed captain and certified instructor with the National Safe Boating Council, he combines nationally recognized boating education with decades of real-world experience. Joe’s goal is not simply to teach boating techniques, but to help students understand why those techniques work and how to confidently apply them in changing conditions.

Every lesson is customized around your boat, your experience level, and your personal boating goals. Whether you need help with docking, close-quarters maneuvering, navigation, trailering, understanding tides and currents, launching and retrieving your boat, or simply becoming more comfortable behind the helm, instruction is tailored to meet your needs.
